Join us for an exciting 4 part professional development course event that celebrates and uplifts Black education! EmpowerED brings together educators, students, and advocates to discuss innovative ideas, share success stories, and address challenges in the education system.

This event is a platform for Black voices to be heard and for everyone to learn from each other's experiences. With engaging discussions, inspiring keynote speakers, and interactive workshops, EmpowerED is a 4-part seminar series for anyone passionate about advancing Black education.

Session 2: Career Advancement

“Navigating Challenges and Seizing New Opportunities”

This dynamic workshop is designed to empower Black educators at every career stage to navigate pathways toward leadership, growth, and professional fulfillment. Through a combination of expert-led testimony and collaborative discussions, attendees will gain practical tools and insights to advance their careers while fostering an equitable and inclusive educational landscape.

Workshop Goals:

  • Equip Black educators with the skills and strategies for career advancement.

  • Provide actionable tools for navigating potential workplace challenges, such as systemic bias.

  • Foster a supportive network of Black educators who can encourage each other’s growth.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Build Essential Skills for career advancement, including self-advocacy, leadership development, and professional networking.

  • Learn from Trailblazing Black Educators who have successfully navigated various levels of the education system.

  • Develop a Personal Career Advancement Plan tailored to their unique goals, strengths, and aspirations.

  • Join a Supportive Community of Black educators committed to mutual growth, mentorship, and encouragement.

Who Should Attend:

  • Early-Career Educators:
    Teachers in their first 1-5 years who are looking to establish a strong foundation and set themselves up for advancement opportunities in the future.

  • Mid-Career Educators:
    Educators with 5-15 years of experience who are ready to transition into leadership roles, such as department heads, instructional coaches, or administrative positions.

  • Aspiring Administrators and Leaders:
    Those interested in roles beyond the classroom, like assistant principals, principals, district-level positions, or policymaking roles in education.

  • Higher Education Faculty or Those Interested in Higher Ed Roles:
    K-12 educators considering a move to university-level positions or faculty roles where they can impact teacher education and research on Black students’ needs.
